abstraction | 1 june – 17 june 2012

Abstraction is an exhibition by emerging abstract artists from all over Australia.

This exhibition is for those who have a love colour and texture and who enjoy a different portrayal of our natural environment. Each of the artists in this exhibition investigates and explores key influences through a diversity of starting points, texture and hues to create a vibrant and stimulating display of contemporary abstract expression.

The painting group from diverse backgrounds and ages have created works that are executed in a variety of techniques as they explore the physical environment and how it impacts on our emotions and perceptions; the internal dialogue portrayed in an array of colour, line and movement.

one hundredth gallery closes ‘A Picture Paints a Thousand Words’ by Adriana Seserko this weekend.

Combining contemporary and traditional motifs with a myriad of art movements, Adriana’s paintings delve into the unknown, exposing every facet of the human condition. Figurative, the characters portrayed in her paintings are a projection of life in the 21st century. From the monstrous to the angelic, humanity is made up of both light and shadow. A Picture Paints a Thousand Words has been one of our most successful exhibitions to date and this weekend is your last chance to see it in Melbourne before it travels to Canberra.

‘A Picture Paints a Thousand Words’ by Adriana Seserko closes at 6pm on Sunday 27 May 2012.

introducing adriana seserko

Do you ever find yourself wishing that you could travel back to a time and place when some of the great master artists were just starting out? Imagine being there at the first exhibition or sales event by Picasso, Dali, Monet, Warhol, Pollock.  Imagine knowing Van Gogh during his lifetime and at a time when he couldn’t sell a single painting because no one wanted them.

one hundredth gallery gives you the opportunity to be there right at the start or an artist’s career; and our next exhibition by Adriana Seserko is a perfect example.

Adriana has a masterful grasp of a number of different painting styles which she melds together to make her own. There is light and dark. Pleasure and Pain. Joy and Sorrow. Each artwork is made of incredible detail created with hundreds of hours of painting. And as a result each tells a story.

Combining contemporary and traditional motifs with a myriad of art movements, my paintings delve into the unknown, exposing every facet of the human condition. Figurative, the characters portrayed in my paintings are a projection of life in the 21st century. From the monstrous to the angelic, humanity is made up of both light and shadow. The austerities of life clash with human ideals, leaving man feeling both vulnerable and exposed. Through my art I express the triumph and decay of the human spirit, whilst also questioning the very essence of life.

Art is my soul and I could simply not exist without it. I paint so that my dreams like reality are tangible. I paint often not because I wish too but for the reason that I must. In a trance I am compelled to create, I have no control over it nor do I wish to. The rawest form of expression can be found in my paintings. Free from pretense, every sense of my being is embodied, each brushstroke a word in the story of my life. – Adriana Seserko

Genius comes in all shapes and forms, and when you see Adriana’s work in real life, you too will appreciate her genius.

We can’t (and won’t ever) promise you financial riches from the artwork that we exhibit and sell, but we can promise you riches in experience from being a part of something really special.

A Picture Tells a Thousand Words by Adriana Seserko opens at 6pm on Thursday 3 May 2012.

Please come along for a drink or two and to talk to the artist in person about her work.

The exhibition continues Friday 4 May through to Sunday 13 May 2012 and for all art lovers, it is an exhibition not to be missed.

4 may – 13 may adriana seserko

It’s often said that ‘a picture paints a thousand words’. It’s an old saying, but it’s still in our vernacular for a reason.

Combining contemporary and traditional motifs with a myriad of art movements, my paintings delve into the unknown, exposing every facet of the human condition. Figurative, the characters portrayed in my paintings are a projection of life in the 21st century. From the monstrous to the angelic, humanity is made up of both light and shadow. introducing chris duffy

We are very excited to open our new exhibition by Chris Duffy and Dawn Lim.

Their exhibition unofficially opened today at 11am and officially opens tomorrow at 12pm (Saturday 11 February 2012).

You’re invited to join us on Saturday to meet Chris and Dawn in person.

Here is a little bit about Chris Duffy…

Born 1966 in Melbourne Australia to an Irish father & Polish mother, Chris moved to London in 1970 and lived there until 1988. Chris returned to Australia after working  double shifts at the local pub to save money for the airfare. Since returning to Australia he has worked in the construction industry, sales, & at a funeral parlour.

Chris attended La Trobe University in Bendigo as a mature aged student in 1997 after completing the first year of a Fine Arts Diploma at Benalla TAFE.

A friend convinced me to join the local art group & try for my diploma, reluctantly I did but after just two weeks I knew I had found my calling in life and art was the only path for me. I was one of those kids who, if I wasn’t kicking a football I would be drawing. Often I would wag school to visit London’s great galleries or museums where I would copy (mostly) Rubens nudes in my text books or just stare for hours at the magnificent art on the walls. The smell of ‘old’ paint and the awestruck wonder of this experience is something that has always stayed with me….I have never known to ‘not’ want to draw or paint. – Chris Duffy

Chris Duffy’s work is primarily concerned with eroticism, reality, sensualism and colour. Chris says a recent highlight was an artist residency at a working brothel in Melbourne, ‘All the senses in overdrive tingling, nervous, watching from the shadows, the sideways glances, titillating & in a flux of constant arousal. At times funny & sometimes frightening! It was a real privilege to witness that world & paint within it. Also, I feel the work I completed during my stay there is my best to date’.

Chris’ exhibition will be open until Sunday 19 February 2012.

introducing dawn lim

We are very excited to open our new exhibition by Dawn Lim and Chris Duffy.

The exhibition unofficially opens at 11am tomorrow (Friday 10 February 2012) and officially opens at 12pm on Saturday 11 February 2012.

You’re invited to join us on Saturday to meet Dawn and Chris in person.

Here is a little bit about Dawn Lim…

I have painted and drawn from my early childhood and have became quite proficient in realism; but I always desired to use my imagination. Whilst studying, I came upon a surrealist manifesto, which excited me because it showed me how I could get started with using my imagination. It taught me that by making marks, in colour or line on my support, things can begin to take shape in my mind and I open up a dialogue with my work. I communicate with it. I absolutely love creating in this way. I now like to see paint, behave like paint, and I like the rough, untidy, gestural, spontaneous brush strokes and the magic that comes about as I work to create a composition.

Mr. Geoff Wallace, lecturer at the University of Ballarat, has said, “You cannot paint from a vacuum,” and  I agree.  You do have to have something form in your mind to communicate with the marks, but sometimes I feel like an outsider watching what takes place and am as surprised as any one else as to what results. Picasso said that his paintings were not always thought out beforehand but that they developed as he was creating them and even then they kept on developing even after he had finished with them, in the imagination of the viewer. I agree whole heartedly with his sentiment.

Dawn’s exhibition will be open until Sunday 19 February 2012.

Tomorrow, we will introduce you to Chris Duffy.
