We are very excited to open our new exhibition by Dawn Lim and Chris Duffy.
The exhibition unofficially opens at 11am tomorrow (Friday 10 February 2012) and officially opens at 12pm on Saturday 11 February 2012.

Here is a little bit about Dawn Lim…
I have painted and drawn from my early childhood and have became quite proficient in realism; but I always desired to use my imagination. Whilst studying, I came upon a surrealist manifesto, which excited me because it showed me how I could get started with using my imagination. It taught me that by making marks, in colour or line on my support, things can begin to take shape in my mind and I open up a dialogue with my work. I communicate with it. I absolutely love creating in this way. I now like to see paint, behave like paint, and I like the rough, untidy, gestural, spontaneous brush strokes and the magic that comes about as I work to create a composition.
Mr. Geoff Wallace, lecturer at the University of Ballarat, has said, “You cannot paint from a vacuum,” and I agree. You do have to have something form in your mind to communicate with the marks, but sometimes I feel like an outsider watching what takes place and am as surprised as any one else as to what results. Picasso said that his paintings were not always thought out beforehand but that they developed as he was creating them and even then they kept on developing even after he had finished with them, in the imagination of the viewer. I agree whole heartedly with his sentiment.
